BEFORE YOU START

Good to know.

A few answers to help you
settle in and start writing.

Is Sparkpad free?

Yes. The project is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. You can use the app, read the code, and contribute on GitHub.

Where are my notes stored?

On your Mac, in a local SQLite database. Page content is stored as Markdown and saved automatically as you write.

Can I use it without connecting AI?

Absolutely. Sparkpad is a complete notepad on its own. MCP is optional: connect an agent only when it fits your workflow.

Which agents can connect?

Clients that support MCP over stdio, such as Claude Code, Codex, and Kimi. The server is built into the Sparkpad executable.

Which platform is the app available for?

The version available in this preview is for macOS on Apple Silicon. The project uses Rust and GPUI; build instructions are in the repository.
